Weekly Update: April 13th - 20th
Not wanting to fall into a rut, I have been keeping a relatively strict schedule and making deadlines for certain projects to stay active. With the extra time now spent at home, I can catch up from the backlog of posts and stories that I’ve kept on the back-burner for months. This past week has been primarily spent behind a computer screen so hopefully next week I can dedicate an hour or so to the gym instead.
One of the biggest changes that came to us this past week was ordering a new computer and keyboard for my office setup. I have always been a fan of all-in-one computers and after much research I’ve narrowed down my computer choices and bought a new All-In-One Lenovo desktop. Wanting my setup to look more adult-like and professional, I also bought a new typewriter style mechanical keyboard however as I type this using the new setup, I might return the keyboard. The height of the keys is a bit too tall for my wrists and the Bluetooth connectivity lags at times but I’ll give this guy another week trial before returning it.
Saturday
Tax season got extended until July however Mr. Mustang and myself decided to finally file jointly as a newly married couple. As we started, for a moment it looked like we were actually due for a refund but the more data we entered, the lower the number became until it started dipping into the negatives. At one point, the program said we owed over $1500 in taxes but thankfully with the final bits of data entered, our total amount owed was only $400. Compared to the horror stories we heard from former newlyweds owing money on their first year filing jointly, we felt that we got off easy. We can only hope that next year we will be eligible for a refund instead.
Later that evening I didn’t feel like cooking. I’ve been in the kitchen every day, multiple times each day preparing food so I felt I earned a break considering it’s weekend. Wanting to keep supporting local businesses, we ordered from our local Thai restaurant and watched Critical Role while drinking two bottles of wine. Overall, it was a very good Saturday.
Sunday
Brunch is mandatory in our household, COVID-19 be damned. For Sunday’s brunch menu I made classic eggs benedict however I couldn’t get the hollandaise sauce right this time around so it came out a bit too runny. In order to be considered brunch, we popped open a bottle of prosecco to make mimosas but omitted the juice. This was one of the few times we actually use our dining room table and we spent a lovely late morning enjoying our meal while reading the Sunday Times.
HACKED! Later in the day I got an alarming message from my phone - an order from GrubHub has been placed and the address is in Tacoma. ‘That doesn’t seem right’ I thought. After some light investigation it seems like my account got compromised and someone was ordering over $100 worth of burritos at a Mexican restaurant in downtown Tacoma. I have never been hacked before so I was a little stunned at first thinking how this could have happened. Quickly though I contacted the driver who was assigned to pick up the order, I called the restaurant preparing the order and messaged a representative from GrubHub to refund the order. Funny enough I have the address that the meal was suppose to go to so I have been considering mailing the thief an envelope full of glitter as revenge but Mr. Mustang is talking me out of it.
Other than that, Sunday was a relatively uneventful day. Dinner was minimal where I warmed up leftovers from a combination of previous meals this past week and a lovely Rosé to wash it all down. For dessert, we had more of the carrot cake that I made the week prior and hopefully by this Friday, all of it will be gone so I can give my waistline a break.
